Rooibos (pronounced Roy-boss) is grown mainly in the mountainous Cederberg region of South Africa in the Western Cape province. Botanically speaking, rooibos is not even a real “tea” at all. Instead, it’s a plant that can be brewed into a reddish-brown herbal infusion dubbed “African red tea” or “red bush tea”. The name “rooibos” or “red bush” tea refers to the deep russet color of the leaves after the process of oxidation, highlighting their naturally rich, malty taste.
